As per reports in The Hindu, the BCCI is all set to announce India's Test squad for the five-Test match series against England on Saturday, May 24.
The report further said that Shubman Gill is leading the race to become the next India Test captain and the announcement also might be made on Saturday.
The Indian Test side is on a transitional phase with the retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli just ahead of the England series. The BCCI took its time to decide on the future of India in the format and now seems to have reached a conclusion. Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah had previously opted out of Test captaincy.

Shubman Gill To Become India's Next Test Captain
Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill were the frontrunners to be named as the Test captain with Gill likely to win the race. Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar is believed to have a lot of conversations with head coach Gautam Gambhir about choosing the next India captain. They have agreed to choose a young captain and hence Gill fits the bill for the moment.
Talking about India's run in Test cricket in the recent past, they lost to New Zealand at home and Australia Down Under to get knocked out of the WTC final race. The Test series against England kicks off India's WTC 2025-27 campaign and hence the management was keen to get someone who would be a part of the team regularly.
There are also interesting updates on the team that is likely to be announced for the England tour. Sai Sudharsan on account of his prime form in the IPL is likely to get a call into the Indian Test side for the series. He is a part of the India A side that will be travelling to England as well. There are a few other young batters who can earn a potential recall into the Test side.
India Sweating Over Mohammed Shami's Fitness
One of the major concerns for Team India is the fitness of Mohammed Shami. He did not play the Test series against Australia with Bumrah doing the truckload of bowling. India needs his experience besides Bumrah's in England.
