Discarded Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has completed his much-awaited move to Mumbai ahead of the 2025-26 domestic season. The batter will be playing for Maharashtra after parting ways with Mumbai.
Shaw was struggling to score runs for Mumbai and thus was shown the door by the selectors. He was not playing for India at the time and was also ditched by the IPL franchises in the last edition of the tournament.
Prithvi Shaw had written to the MCA requesting them to allow him to join a new domestic team after had offers from a few other teams. He fell out of favour from the Mumbai team for reasons of his fitness and fielding standards.

Prithvi Shaw to Play Alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad, Rahul Tripathi, Mukesh Choudhary Among Others
MCA secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed to Hindustan Times that Shaw is indeed looking to move out of Mumbai. Meanwhile, Shaw has spoken after joining Mumbai and expressed his willingness to play alongside Ruturaj Gaikwad.
“I’m happy to get the opportunity to play alongside talented players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Rajneesh Gurbani, and Mukesh Choudhary in the Maharashtra team,” he said.
MCA President Rohit Pawar has welcomed Prithvi Shaw with open arms and said that he will surely add to the side with his experience.
“We are delighted to welcome a player of Prithvi Shaw’s calibre to the Maharashtra team. His inclusion adds tremendous strength to an already talented squad comprising experienced players like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ankit Bawne, Rahul Tripathi, Mukesh Choudhary, and Rajneesh Gurbani. Shaw’s international and IPL experience will be invaluable, especially for mentoring younger players in the squad. I extend my heartfelt thanks to the MCA Apex Council and the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) for supporting this decision. Maharashtra Cricket Association stands firmly behind Prithvi in his new journey, and we wish him the very best for the seasons ahead" he said.
Shaw had previously written to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) expressing his willingness to join Maharashtra.
"At this juncture in my career, I have been presented with a promising opportunity to play professional cricket under another State Association, which I believe will further contribute to my growth and development as a cricketer. In light of this, I kindly request you to issue me a No Objection Certificate (NOC) that will enable me to officially represent the new State Association in the upcoming domestic season" wrote Shaw.

Prithvi Shaw Played Last For India In 2021
It was in 2021 during India's tour to Australia that Prithvi Shaw played last for India. Overall, he has played five Tests, six ODIs, and one T20 International for India
