Veteran Indian cricketers Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have resumed practice with an eye on the Australia ODI series and the ODI World Cup 2027. The two cricketers are retired from Test and T20I cricket.

ODI cricket is the only format where both the cricketers are active. Rohit is still the ODI skipper of the side and Kohli the top-scorer for India in the format among the current players.

India will be playing ODI matches against Australia and South Africa after this year and both Kohli and Rohit have started practicing for the important games. Both of them will be making a comeback to competitive cricket and thus both are trying to keep themselves in shape.

Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli Back To The Grind

Both Rohit and Kohli were last seen playing in IPL 2025. Kohli finished the season with 657 runs and played a big role in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) winning their first IPL title. Rohit, on the other hand, endured back-to-back seasons where he scored 400-plus runs in the tournament in the last two years. Rohit Sharma, who is 38 currently, is working with former India Assistant coach Abhishek Nayar. Nayar has worked closely in the past with the likes of Dinesh Karthik and KL Rahul. Nayar is working hard with Rohit now to get him back in shape ahead of the ODI World Cup in the next two years.

Virat Kohli, on the other hand, has been practicing in the nets in London. This comes after he recently teamed up with the Gujarat Titans Assistant Coach Naeem Amin. Kohli also posed with a fan after his net session in London.

Both Rohit and Kohli are very keen to play the next ODI World Cup in 2027. The Indian skipper will turn 40 by the time the World Cup starts. Kohli too, will turn 39. Meanwhile, there are reports that the BCCI are looking to phase out the veterans, keeping an eye on the future and looking to build a young team for the World Cup.
