Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium, also known as the Niranjan Shah Stadium, was inaugurated in 2008. Renamed after Niranjan Shah, a key figure in Saurashtra’s cricket administration and development, the stadium can hold up to 28,000 spectators..
The stadium was inaugurated with modern amenities, including floodlights, to host day and night matches. It also makes its mark as Gujarat’s first solar-powered cricket venue, thanks to a rooftop solar setup that slashes electricity use and boosts sustainability.
Primarily, it hosts the Saurashtra cricket team and has seen several international matches featuring the Indian national team. Previously, it was also the home stadium for the Gujarat Lions in the IPL.. It remains the home ground for Indian cricketers like Ravindra Jadeja and Cheteshwar Pujara, who began their domestic careers here, with Pujara famously scoring a triple century at this venue in the Ranji Trophy.
The surface is known to be batting-friendly, offering even bounce and pace for batters. However, it gradually begins to assist spinners, making this pitch a balanced venue across the formats. The media box at this stadium is modeled after the one at Lord’s, making it uniquely reminiscent of that iconic design.
